The last AvP game that had been released on multiple platforms (Xbox 260, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC) and made by the same company that made AvP for both Atari Jaguar and the PC: Rebellion Developments.
Who has played it? Which version did you play or own?
I 've played both the PS3 and the PC version. But only single player campaigns and the "Survivor" mode which is like a half-ass "Skirmish" mode that was present in AvP 1999/Gold Edition/Classic 2000.
I didn't really finish or get back to the PS3 version, although they are all more or less the same and identical when it comes to the single player campaign experience anyway. But I did complete the PC version 2 years ago when I got the chance to play it.
I thought it just didn't live up to my expectations. It had lots of potential, but they still blew it. Maybe not as terrible compared to the way Aliens Colonial Marines had turned out, but still could have been better.
The whole lack of crouch, and the melee combat mechanics is awkward to me. It's just really awkward with this rock paper scissors system with quick attacks, heavy attacks, and blocking. Although I had already completed the campaign completely with all species already, and I done multiple times till I finally finished it all on the highest difficulty setting that had been offered: Nightmare
But there just wasn't a whole lot more to do or offered. Once again, the community did not get the respect it deserved and we just never got a SDK, but I think that's mostly Sega's fault and to blame them for not being cooperative to give the community a SDK and modification and customization tools, such as a new custom map builder, but also thanks to the current business model of "DLCs" and microtransactions, although the DLCs were okay, I've only played the Survivor modes.
Unlike the Skirmish mode of AvP 1999/Gold Edition/Classic 2000, we cannot use or play as Predators in a "survivor" or "co-op" mode. Only Marines, and it's just not as fun compared to back then, much more annoying and harder. It's a half-ass co-op mode to me. Rather see a campaign format for Co-Op for an AvP FPS game for once.
The lack of a Full or Designated Co-Op campaign support for an AvP game is also something I'm getting tired of not seeing. If any developer ever see this and take note, please make a future FPS AvP Game to include either a full campaign that supports co-op instead of a just an "extra mode" like "skirmish" or "survivor", or "horde mode".
Rebellions's AvP 1999/Gold Edition/Classic 2000 at least gave us unlockable modes and extras that we can earn and play around with called "Cheat Options", but none of that is around this time around. So once the campaign was done, the only thing to really unlock is just skins specifically used for multiplayer games or "achievements" or "trophies". And those skins for multiplayer just don't really add anything or affect the actual gameplay unlike the various modes like WarpSpeed or LandOfTheGiants offered in AvP 1999/Gold Edition/Classic 2000 which actually made things interesting and made their single player campaign levels worth re-visiting and re-playing.
Well that's basically my two cents. What are everyone's thoughts on the Aliens vs. Predator game released back in 2010?
