So this is about that game that the Talisman card template thread is about.
Although it isn't based on a pre-existing franchise, it will use images from various movies and TV shows on the cards, for lack of my own material.
Now, the point of this thread is, should I come up with names for cards unrelated to the images or just use the names of the characters I'm stealing the image from?
Like, for example, if I was making a scifi CCG based on my own idea, but needed some space marines, and used Cpl Hicks for a card image, should I just call the card Cpl Hicks or give it a new name and not acknowledge the actual source of the image at all?
The upsides as I see it are as follows: new names keeps the idea "pure". It lets me do whatever I want with it without making any considerations for the character images. On the other hand, naming the characters after their images adds a degree of fun to it, as people can team up characters from different movies/tv shows that fall within the genre of the game.

I think you should go the naming them after the image route. If I were playing, no matter what you named that character I'd still probably call him by his image. Too recognizable not to I would think.
Now you could go the route of Decipher and go with some background characters from films/T.V. that no one ever sees and come up with unique names there, but then I think you'd lose the fun factor. Wars CCG was not the same thing as Star Wars CCG, so the franchise/license matters in that regard for a lot of people including me. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback. That is pretty much what I was thinking.

yeah I agree. Ive seen it in the past where a known character is called someone else. Actually you see it like crazy in the Premiere edition of this game. Like "PVT Masters" for example. Ive never really been able to choke down a pic of Hudson referred to as a chick... still makes me chuckle. Bill Paxton... "She's as tough as they come," lol!
