Sorry to say but....I don't like it. Not only has it been cattered to for console idiots, but theres no crouch, the smartgun sound TERRIBLE, movement is beyond slow, can barely jump, no crouch... only allowed 2 weapons at a time, its VERY unbalanced, did i mention theres no crouch? 4 levels to each campain (now that's just F'in lazy rebellion...), meh acting (but avp has never had good actors), meh story.....oh yeah, AND NO CROUCH!!
To sum up, imagine AVP2, take out all the decent stuff like weapons, crouch, fast aliens, hacking device, image intensifer, tone it down and make the entire game even slower, cut out half the experiance (IE 4 levels...I MEAN COME ON 4 LEVELS THATS BARELY ADDON STATUS!!)
This is only my opinion (so please no children flameing) but, its a very poor attept at a game, and reflects what FOX has done to both franchises...

I still plan on getting the game at some point, but I'm not getting it right now, primarily because Sega decided (for reasons far beyond me) to only release the Hunter Edition of the game for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in North America, not PC (Everywhere else in the world recieved a PC Hunter Edition release), but also because of the catering towards the halo demographic, which I've always despised.

Don't have to worry about children flaming you here, we're all pretty much jaded, bitter old fans.
I bought the game, and I think its alright. Considering the disturbing trend of shooters with 4 hour campaigns, AvP's done better than that at least, but after finishing all the campaigns, the constantly reused maps for levels where annoying, then on top of that, to find out that the same campaign set pieces are used for the base of the multiplayer maps?
The game just reeks of being a rush-job and a quick cash-in. I personally blame Sega, as I suspect it was there call as to when the game was released.
Hopefully this gives time for Aliens: Colonial Marines to be amazing. I always was more excited about that that AvP.
Oh, and the multiplayer is a freaking mess. In order to do a ranked match you are randomly assigned to a match based on only 2 filters. game-type and player total. No list of servers to look for one with a good connection or anything. No mute for mics. I was disappointed in the small amount of maps also, considering there was no special edition for the USA, and the extra maps will be DLC. What a scam that is. Whenever anyone starts to lose they drop out, and if they are hosting, the map dumps everyone. The multiplayer needed a patch yesterday.
I did a death match with just aliens and it was stupid as hell. We'd all camp the walls bordering the map, and anytime we smacked each-other the target would fall. So it was a race to hit pounce while climbing up/down the wall towards the guy, to knock him down before you got knocked. Over and over again. Then the host left and dumped me from the game. At least it still counted for my game totals. 1 game 1st place out of 1 match played.
I still think the melee system is screwy. Once someone has the upper-hand, you just cannot win. It feels awkward and clunky and the melee duels just take to long. If a Pred knocks you down and finishes you before you recover why not just make the Heavy a 1-shot kill? Its the same difference but speeds the game up.
And the Alien's tail attack switching between a quick mode on ceiling and walls or when far away from someone, then becoming slow in actual melee sucks.
I also don't like how much the game borrows from AvP:R. The Pred-Hybrid is TERRIBLE. Both in look and behavior. Even the games can't seem to get the Pred's jaws to look right.
I liked seeing acid spit in the campaign, but why isn't that in multi-player? And the boss fights in the campaign where pretty neat, if a little to long. (Probably to pad the play time.) I also really like the atmosphere, and enjoyed the audio diaries as a Marine.

mrdomino: if you have steam, you can TECHNICALY buy the hunter edition on that (however seeming as you didn't preorder youll have to pay for the skins as a DLC...sucks huh... ¬_¬). And axolotl: you've made some good points I will admit, however to me, i just see it as a DRAMATICALY scaled down version of both avp 1 and 2 (and making hacking sequences survival moments is just silly, i enjoyed flipping down the panel and doin the hudson special lol). And also avp had the diaries and although you got no sound from them, they had some GREAT littlebits in them, like an argument between a cook and an officer about pizzas. Ya know the reason why don't you? as I said, it's been made for a console, then they've gone "oh, I SUPPOSE pc can have it to...". However....upon running round with my GF onit, I gotta say it is .....the MULTIPLAYER isnt bad, if somewhat slugish....we both ended up running round with aliens fans, ALL looking for the smart gun (the entire round consisted of marines, fighting for the smart gun, predators...defending the smart gun, and aliens...basicaly sitting on the walls laughing at us all) I HOPE this has been released so they can get some money for colonial marine (GOD I hope so last i heard it had been cancled AGAIN). I don't see why they don't just do a TRUE aliens game...you could make an AMAZING online game based around somin like battlefield, Pilot drop ships, drive apcs and tractors and such. Then you could have all the differnt sections, Assault (Pulse rifle pistol you know standard crap) Heavy Weapons (Choice between smart gun sadar and phased plasma cannon) MEchanic THE LOT, and then they could even do shit for the aliens, have a hiver that runs round hiving buildings to turn into birthing chambers, warrior, birther, catcher stuff like that....OR am I living in a dream world Crash

The lack of an objective based co-op mode, and that the Steam client being mandatory for Physical Retailed boxed editions made me avoid purchasing this game. Steam isn't for everyone, and definitely not for me, I really don't play online multiplayer at all anymore and no longer have the time for it.
Well I migh when and if it ever hits the bargain bin, but till then I very much doubt it.
I grew tired of any Single Player campaigns "Re-Hashes" the same old 'One character/man army' concept.
In the beginning and earlier games (like in the days of DOS FPS games) I had Only accepted this due to graphical and other misc engine limitations.
But I feel it's no longer excusable and very unrealistic approach.
Aliens strengths are always suppose to be in numbers, and Marines must always work in Squad Units to survive.
I even grew tired of Solo Elite Predators taking on all enemies by himself in a Hunt.
A Solo Pred mowing down Alien after Alien (or Marine after marine) is so early 90s for AvP video games. I've been there from the beginning so I would know. If they are going for a realistic approach they should have reconsidered making the Campaign where a "Pack of Predators" fight for their survival and hunt together. At least that's what I found to make the CCG more original for Predators and not so lame.
Oh and i also heard that you start off with a Young Blood Predator instead of an Elite Veteran in the new AvP game. Thus that make even less sense for him to handle entire missions all by himself.
The Multiplayer isn't anything fresh or new either, it's been previously executed in the first 2 AvP games on the PC. It jsut feels like another variation of Quake 3 Arena/Unreal Tournament styled gameplay but geared toward melee combat.
Also in case anyone was wondering- I do not own any current generation consoles, so I'm afraid I'll also have to pass on those alternatives.
