Aliens. Alien and Predator also, and Alien 3 director's cut isn't bad either.

predator 2 is a great film, i just hate it when people say it was crap because Arnie wasn’t in it or its not set in a jungle like the 1st one, we learned lots more new things about the predator and its cultures like rules of hunt and new weapons

Alien, Aliens, and Predator are hands down the Best out of their entire respective franchise, at least to me personally.
While I used to hate Alien 3, now I seem to have a better understanding of it and tolerate it. Ripley makes the Ultimate Sacrifice to stop the much greatest evil, which ironically isn't the Xenomorphs themselves but rather the very corporation she worked for because they had always been trying to obtain and control them. It's Tragic but it was indeed a better closure from pretty much everything else that came out afterwards, again just from my perspective.
Alien Resurrection was just there for more money milking purposes. Bringing back a dead character with cloning, wow... really that's the best they could do? Not to mention the titular antagonists the Xenomorphs themselves, but that at least confirms that sacrifice Ripley made actually meant something right? I though it was just more so for the comedic relief, it's not even worthy of being there as a a true sequel to the Alien franchise.
Predator 2 is fine in it's own way, the amount of new Predator tech and gear introduced is it's main highlights and points of interest and as well as establishing a clearer image and representation of the Predator creatures and race by the end of the film was it's strongest highlights. It's not a perfect movie, but good to watch for fun.
As for the AvP films, I absolutely HATED them for the fact they Just HAD to use a Modern Earth setting and then made excuses about why they could not use a future setting or an outer space setting.
Again it was because due to all of the executive decisions from Fox themselves to make more money by spending as little money on their production, since they absolutely refused to greenlight an Outer Space and/or Future setting for it's script, all "claiming" it would cost them TOO Much Money to make the movie.
I hated them since I felt very cheated by their lies saying it would cost them "too much money" to make an AvP movie with that type of setting, especially when afterwards they made a 3rd Predator (Predators) in Outer Space on an entire Planet which has a complete jungle environment that is earthlike-ish!
So in other words they could have done Predators first and establish the concept of the "Game Preserve" Jungle Planet and introduce it then continued onto an AvP movie, even if it had not been the exact same "Game Preserve" planet that had been established in Predators. Then we would still have ended up with an AvP Movie set in "Outer Space" whether it had been in the future or not. I just think Earth as a background story, especially if it is Modern Day Earth, it is the worst possible idea for an AvP movie, and pretty much anything relevant to AvP.
Other than that a futuristic earth setting for a potential AvP film or some other kind of similar production such as a TV series, anime or whatever project. But it's probably too late for that now, since last couple of Alien video games did Not sell really really that well, maybe Alien Isolation did better than Colonial Marines and AvP 2010, but that's not really enough to help fund a newer bigger and better future project such as another AvP production of some sort.
But oh well a 5th Alien film and a Prometheus sequel is in the works, let's just see how these 2 are going to turn out when they come out now shall we? And as well as a 4th Predator film is also in progress.
They should stick with a really distant future type of setting all the way through for an AvP story to movie conversion, especially if they want to re-use Earth as it's story's Only setting again sometime in the future.
And preferably a Post-Apocalyptic setting where Humanity is at the Brink of Extinction trying to survive amongst themselves as well as caught in the struggle between Xenomorphs and the Predators.

my opinion: Prometheus really, really sucked... & the fact that alien 5 is being delayed by Prometheus 2 sucks even more.
what should they do? i dunno, maybe Judge Dredd vs. Aliens, its post-apocalyptic, its grim & gritty, & its got those pheromone collars so the rogues can seed the whole city with eggs.

As bad as Prometheus is I'd still take it over forcing Modern Earth settings for 2 AvP films, but that's just me. Ridley Scott seemed like he wanted to distant himself from AvP films, thus only a cameo of a Xenomorph look-alike (The Deacon) appeared at the end of Prometheus and the Acid Blood references from that Hammerpede creature. I forgot if the Dystopian Post Apocalyptic word in Judge Dredd had humanity on the brink of extinction or not, but then again crossovers as films had never been considered "good" films. Maybe somebody will find this and consider it. Maybe somebody like a fan or somebody that has some decent resources and create a short AvP fanfilm set in a distant future post-apocalyptic Earth where humans are at the brink of dying out permanently, kind of closer to the setting in the future seen in the Terminator movies, maybe even from those Mad Max films. A very very dark, gloomy, somber and very bleak kind of setting for an AvP fan film/story. Instead of the usual outer space with the US Colonial Marine Corps. which had been done to death in video games and comics. The post apocalyptic earth setting idea should have a bit of that big despairing and really bitter feeling many of us felt when we first watching Alien 3 since they killed off Hicks, and Newt and Bishop damaged beyond repair. (Ok Hicks is alive again according to that Colonial Marines game but that's a whole other story sorry for the spoilers, but I think most of you had already know that by now.) I just think with that kind of setting which creates that kind of mood, especially if AvP had been set on "Earth" again really would have the potential to be a good and interesting story. Just work on how the human characters and make them less carbon copy and cliche. Make the fights interesting between Aliens and Predators and make the casualties of each side about fairly even. No more shit like 1 Lone Highly Skilled Veteran Pred taking on large amounts of Aliens. And no more shit like when a dumbass noob Pred gets impaled by an Alien's tail and his other Pred buddy did absolutely nothing more other than watch and let him die.

as much as we can see the potential for what wonder could be... alas, with each new installment to the franchise all i can see is the studio execs ruining it (like the always have). Alien 3 was the first & the worst offender, going so far as to essentially have David Fincher hamstrung, & to this day the director has removed alien 3 from his filmography & will refuse to speak of it.
to this day, i still have no idea what they were thinking when they made alien: resurrection, just look at the title...
AvP, the first one was watchable (mainly thanks to lance henrickson), but ultimately as you say the whole earth setting was ridiculous, AvPR, even dumber.
but you really have to hand it to the guys who own the rights, the franchise started on such a high note it was bound to failure when deciding factor is put into the hands of a few people who only care about profits. from what i understand, the studio at first gave ridley scott the go-ahead for an alien prequal "Prometheus" (which is what it was advertised as when the first news of it was released), then later on after the project was already underway by scott, the company changes their mind & forces him to take out the xeno-morph, forcing him to change fundamental parts of his story, & thus we end up with religious pretentiousness & the Deacon (wow, that almost sounds exactly like alien 3).
part of what created the "mood" of the original films was the fact that the stories were character driven, though driven by characters that had realistic behavior & a lot of 1970's practical acting. these days, you get elizabeth shaw, who as a character is so embarrasing to watch i really think scott has lost touch with whatever roots he started from.
