Star Trek was beyond me when I first got it. Was about 10 or something. I just couldn't wrap my head around it then. I expect things'll be different now but...

I have abandoned Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG over 20 months ago in favor of AvP's much more complex and flexible system(not limited to 1 vs. 1 matches)
I will never play yugioh again (at least not with the real cards that game is a complete ripoff with those stupid Holo Rares and Other BS, plus it took the publisher: UDE WAAAY Too long to allow 2 vs. 2 Tag Team to become officially playable.
If you want to play yugioh, do yourself and everyone a favor Buy a Sony PSP and get that Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force 2 game, and also use Homebrew applications to give yourself access to all the cards from the get go. save you plenty of money and plenty of frustration)
I was going to get involved heavily on the Universal Fighting System CCG (since I've always been a big Fan of The king Of Fighters series, and I like a card game that involves Capcom and SNK characters fighting it out. If I remember correctly UFS is not stricly limited to 1 vs. 1 matches.
but haven't made the time and budget to invest for it yet.
I will get involved withe playing Terminator CCG once I get hold of a box of Starters.
Other card games that kinda interests me is the TCG based off of FOX's TV Show- [glow=silver,2,300]24[/glow] and also that new card game for Transformers(don't know if I'll invest at all in this)
I got involved with CCGs/TCGs when Magic The gathering was first introduced to me. Someday I might go back to that. Magic was the root and the first CCG that was ever out if I am correct.

They often grow up and move on when the flaws become apparent (much like I see you did #wink# ) UFS is what I play heavily at the moment, so I have nothing but good things to say about it (although the game is currently undergoing a bit of a flumox due to the change in publishers). I currently Scout for it and run tournaments etc. Whilst no official rules for multiplayer there are fan ones you can use. And yes, Magic was the first CCG, followed by Jihad (Vampire: The Eternal Struggle) if I remember right, then Legends of the Five Rings and a slew of others followed...

A little thread-resurrection...
I have at one time played: Magic, Star Wars (Decipher's), Battletech, AvP, and Warlord.
Now, I play and handle rules for Warlord (used to be an AEG game, now it's published by Phoenix Interactive - http://www.warlordccg.com), play Battletech about once a year, and have drawn several locals into playing AvP semi-regularly.
