I understand your point of view about counter but alien birth in my opininon have an ongoing effect - yes cappturing occurs in the round in which is played alien birth but that means the character goes to breeding chamber and stays there till mature round - so in fact he is under some ongoing effect .In fact capturing means a series of ongoing effects .As far masterful shot is considered I am sure it can't be countered.

The card effect itself is immediate - whether their are lasting repercussions are irrelevant. Once a SC is captured by Alien Birth, the card is discarded and the captured SC follows the normal rules of the game.

For a clarification on Counter, and ongoing effect is any effect which lasts beyond the current round.
Alien Birth isn't holding the captured character in the breeding chamber, the rules of the game are.
