So, I probably should have been around for some of the endless lead-up to this game's release, but now that it's been out for a bit, has anyone else around here played it? What have you thought?
So far, I haven't been able to play it nearly as much as I'd like. I've yet to throw in the Alien Player rules or the Hidden Agenda mechanic, and the only scenarios I've beaten have been Aliens and Alien 3.

I think its good, but I can't readily draw up a comparison. I don't play many deckbuilding games.

Have you played any other deckbuilders, dolemite? (Dominion, Thunderstone, Ascension, Nightfall, Core Worlds, et al)

Alright, well, it's a subgenre of games that started a few years back. The core concept is everybody starts with the same deck of crap cards, usually 10 or 12. As the game progresses, you use those cards to buy better cards, which go into your discard pile. Since you're drawing an entirely new hand of cards each turn, your deck cycles fairly quickly, so those cards you bought start filtering up into your play hands, allowing you to do more cool things.
Dominion was the first deck-builder, and while it's fun, it's pretty bland compared to a lot of what's out now. Legendary Encounters has that central deck-building mechanic (you start with a bunch of basic marine Grunts and Specialists), and buy characters from the movies into your deck, all while more and more blips start filling the complex. You've got to get the cards to scan the blips (they can be anything from an Alien to Jones or Newt, or Ash stalking the halls), then defeat whatever enemies before they make it to the combat zone, where they can start wailing on you and your buddies. The game is fully cooperative. It's all about whether you can survive one of the four scenarios (based on the four movies), and you win or lose as a group.
